This external drive comes formatted in NTFS for Windows systems and includes NTFS drivers for Mac users, so you can store and access files from PCs and Macs without reformatting. You will need to reformat this drive if you choose to use Time Machine software.

Toshiba has outfitted the Canvio with a USB 3.0 interface that allows for quick file transfers and speedy backups. This interface is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices, so you can use the drive with older systems. Furthermore, powering the Canvio is accomplished with the included AC power adapter.

The included NTI Backup Now EZ software for Windows scans your system and offers customizable backup options for your computer. You can choose between backing up files and folders to the cloud (free 30-day trial of cloud backup included), select files and folders to your Canvio, or everything saved on your computer. For restoring, you just need to click the restore button and you can recover a file, folder, or your entire system with ease. The program also allows you to schedule a backup to run automatically at any time and day.
